Sending and receiving messages Storage space allowed

The e-mail server for all FIB students is correu.fib.upc.es. It does not accept interactive connections such as telnet and ssh: only POP3, IMAP and webmail. In order to check your e-mail, you can use:

- Netscape on the PC or Sunray machines.
- WebMail, by accessing from the Student's Corner.
- Outlook Express on PCs

You are allowed 5 Mb of storage space for e-mail, although you must bear in mind this space is shared with your personal web page, if you have one. You can check how much space you have left from the Student's Corner.

Automatic forwarding

You can automatically forward all e-mails you receive at your FIB address to another address. All you have to do is:

  • Open a file called .forward for editing. This file will contain only the address to which all messages will be automatically forwarded. The editor you use to open the file must be able to save as pure ASCII format.
  • Access the server correu.fib.upc.es via FTP, and copy the file here. The username and password are the same as on all other accounts.

Recommendations

It is very important that you follow the following advice:

  • The limited storage allowed for e-mails is one of the reasons why you are recommended NOT TO SUBSCRIBE TO MAILING LISTS. If you do, you must check your e-mail every day, and un-subscribe if you go on holiday.
  • If you have any serious problems using this service, or you come across any anomaly, you can send a message to lcfibfib.upc.edu.
  • Lastly, we would like to remind you that the use of this service must comply to the LCFIB rules of conduct. If you still haven't read them, do so now.
