CD creation

Last modified: 10-06-2002

The LCFIB provides the CD Creation Service, so Final Thesis students can make a master CD of their thesis. Students using this service must bear the following in mind:

  • It is forbidden to copy any commercial, shareware, or freeware software package.
  • You are only allowed to copy the sources for the Final Thesis and the report.
  • You need to have your Final Thesis registered.
  • This service is provided once only per student (before the Final Thesis is submitted).
  • Students must bring a 74 min/650 Mb CD-R, as the LCFIB does not sell CDs.
  • The LCFIB cannot be held responsible for any errors that might occur when burning the CD.
  • The LCFIB reserves the right to refuse to copy a CD if the above rules are broken, or if intellectual property or copyright is being infringed.

Final year students interested in this service should contact the Operations Service in the A5 Building, where they will be given a temporary account on a server. Students themselves copy the contents of their theses to this server. The Operations Service at the LCFIB will then check the contents and, if everything is correct, burn the CD. You can ask for up to four copies of a CD (you will have to bring the blank CDs). Students do not have direct access to the CD writer.

The server that supports this service is Joker. The connection must be established from the Windows 95 computer rooms, as this is not possible under Linux. The procedure is as follows:

  1. From Windows 95 browser, connect to the following network device: \\joker\student_login where student_login is the same as on all your accounts. The password will be given to you beforehand by the service staff.
  2. Students copy all their files and folders to the server Joker. Once the transfer is made, they must take a blank CD to the Operations Service.
  3. The Operations Service notifies students when the CD is done via e-mail.
