Software for studentsLast modified: 10-06-2002
The FIB has come to an agreement with the makers of Informix Software, Oracle, SQL Server and MAPLE V for the distribution of these applications to students enrolled on the following subjects
Students wishing to apply for one of these products must:
- be enrolled on a subject that requires the product or be carrying out a Final Thesis based around the product.
- Print and fill in the forms for Informix, Oracle, SQL Server or Maple that you have here. If you are taking GC, there is no need to fill in any forms.
- Take a new, unopened 8x 74 minute CD-R, and the completed form to the Operations Service at the A5 Building. You will be given a CD with a copy of the requested software in return for your blank CD.
- IMPORTANT:
The CD copies will be supplied on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays only, at the A5 Building (Operations Services).
Minimum requirements:
- 32 Mb of RAM
- Intel Pentium Processor or higher.
- Windows 95, 98 or NT
Installation
Bear in mind Informix does not work with Windows NT Service Pack 5 (it works with Service Pack 3). The installation procedure is as follows.
- First install IDS, then Iconnect and then Client.
- Run the IDS setup.exe file, and type in the serial number and key.
- Reboot.
- Run the Iconnect setup.exe file, and type in the serial number and key.
- Run the Client setup.exe file.
- Once everything is installed, run setnet32. This file is in the "Informix" program group, which was created during the installation. Here you will have to update the following variables:
CLIENT_LOCALE=en_US.CP1252
DB_LOCALE=en_US.CP1252
DBANSIWARN=n
DELIMIDENT=n
You don't need to touch the rest of the variables.
- Lastly, run the Command Center, to put the server on line.
Additional problems you may encounter
- If you don't have a tape device for backups, you must deactivate any tape devices. You must edit the onconfig file that is in the Informix/etc folder. The two following lines must be modified to look like this:
system archive Tape Device
tape dev Nul #........
log archive Tape Device
tape dev Nul #........
- If you are working in an MS-DOS and window and you define many environment variables, you may come across the following type of error message: There is no environment space. This can be solved by accessing the properties of the DOS window. Go to the "Memory" tab and set the "Initial environment" field to 4096, instead of its default setting.
